(5/10/1866 Grodno, Belarus- 12/28/1924 Paris) (Russia); aka Bakst, Leon
   Samoilovitch / Bakst, Leon Nikolayevich Painter, illustrator, art teacher, and stage designer. Studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts and in 1890s in Paris at the Academie Julian. Became involved in the Mir Iskusstva movement and in 1899 was one of the founders of the magazine World of Art. Best known for portraits and illustrations for various periodicals
